Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Critically review the role of exercise across the lifespan with attention to diversity and disability
2 Critically appraise the complex factors that interact with age to influence physical activity
3 Evaluate diverse approaches to enhance physical activity (p.a) across different stages within the lifespan
4 Demonstrate understanding of research tools used in the design and evaluation of interventions
5 Design an innovative intervention relating to two specific life stages

Content:

Early years and interaction with pa. Physical education in schools and childhood experiences. Student lifestyle and pa. attrition. Work, family and physical activity motivations. The role of physical activity in the maintenance of independent living. Designing effective p.a interventions. Ethical considerations in pa. promotion.
