Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Contrast and compare global perspectives on, and approaches to health
2 Evaluate the effectiveness of a range of international health policies related to lifestyle and contemporary health issues
3 Understand the scale and relevance of diverse health issues globally
4 Consider the role that cultural differences play in the effectiveness of community health interventions
5 Identify research tools used in the evaluation of health strategies

Content:

The concept of health across the globe. Health inequalities. The scale of contemporary lifestyle based health issues across the globe. Diverse health interventions and their effectiveness. Can health interventions be replicated across different countries/cultures?

Additional assessment information

Portfolio will include critical analysis and evaluation of contemporary global interventions. For example, students will present a series of work which critically examines the development and outcomes of current interventions such as obesity prevention programmes in the US, alcohol awareness programmes in the UK, physical activity promotion programmes in the Netherlands etc.
