SHN6602 - Research Project

Objectives:

On completion of the module students will be able to:

(1) define a topic suitable for a study of 6,000 words in a proposal
(2) plan and carry out a piece of research in an ethically acceptable, logical and systematic manner, using the appropriate data collection methods;
(3) analyse and interpret results;
(4) present findings clearly and concisely in a formal report.

Content:

A research project will be undertaken on a topic agreed with the supervisor. This will include original research and data collection. This may involve the use of techniques including: case studies, dietary surveys, laboratory work, interviews, surveys. Students will be encouraged to comment on the significance of their results in relation to the work of other researchers and communicate their findings coherently. Proposals requiring ethics approval are submitted to the department Ethics Committee.
