SHN6122 - Applied Sport Nutrition

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of nutritional factors affecting participation and performance in competitive sport
Offer advice to sport performers and their coaches on nutrition
Conduct a needs analysis, profiling and sport nutrition case study
Design, prescribe and appraise an applied programme to a sports performer
Write up a case study and perform a presentation

Content:

Frameworks for working with athletes and developing rapport
Assessing nutritional requirements for the performer’s sport
Applied techniques and interventions for diet

Learning and Teaching Information:

Lectures are interactive sessions throughout the module. Regular role play is used and time is taken to support students in undertaking a case study. Interest groups provide an efficient way of enabling students to explore their proposed intervention techniques and share good practice.
Online support is offered by forums for discussions and finding appropriate clients plus useful assessments and reading material.
