Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Critically appraise the role of sport in society.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of sociological approaches to sport.
Demonstrate an understanding of the processes of socialisation into and through sport.
Evaluate the experience of sport for members of marginal groups in sport.
Understand the role and impact of the media in its portrayal of sport.

Using sociological theory to understand sport; socialisation and sport; ethnicity and sport; gender and sport; class and sport; disability and sport; government and sport; social inclusion; social capital and sport; sport and the media.
