SHN4372 - Primary Physical Education 2

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of national curriculum aims and content in relation to primary athletic and outdoor and adventurous activities. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the nature of and influences on physical growth and the development of fundamental motor skills.
Appraise the contribution of athletic activities towards health-related exercise and lifelong participation in physical activity.

Content:

National Curriculum -aims and content, links to personal and social learning through Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA).
Planning and organisation in primary athletics and OAA structure, progression in relation to core tasks, risk assessment, differentiation, short term planning.
• Questioning to promote understanding
• Health related exercise
• Fitness testing
• Links to outside agencies
• Motor development – fundamental motor skills, coordination, balance, agility
• Self-evaluation and reflection

Further details relating to assessment
Students are expected to attend 100% in all modules. Attendance that falls below 75% in the PE modules will fail and students will be required to re-sit each module at the discretion of the Head of Department.
Practical resit opportunities will be available in the University resit period.

Students must gain a pass in the pass/fail component.
