SHN4322 - Secondary Physical Education 1

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Show knowledge and understanding of National Curriculum PE.
Demonstrate ability to apply NC aims and content to the delivery of secondary games.
Develop knowledge and understanding of key issues and curriculum models relating to the delivery of secondary games.
Demonstrate ability to plan progressive learning opportunities identifying clear objectives and outcomes.
Show knowledge, understanding and application of skill acquisition and information processing within PE and recognise their importance to the learner and teacher.

Content:

PE – underpinning principles,
National Curriculum – aims and content for the secondary age range, attainment target, core tasks, learning terminology. Identify high quality Physical Education.
Classification of sport. Information Processing models of motor performance. Skill acquisition, nature of practice, guidance and feedback.
Curriculum models – Teaching Games for Understanding, Sport Education. Planning and organising – short term planning, objectives and outcomes, teaching points, organising – pupils, spaces, resources, time with regards to games activities

Further details relating to assessment
Students are expected to attend 100% in all modules. Attendance that falls below 75% in the PE modules will fail and students will be required to re-sit each module at the discretion of the Head of Department.
Practical resit opportunities will be available in the University resit period

Students must gain a pass in the pass/fail component.
