Objectives:

On successful completion of the module students will be able to:

Identify uses of sport and exercise psychology.
Demonstrate knowledge of approaches to psychological research.
Demonstrate knowledge of key psychological concepts pertinent to sport and exercise.
Participate in data collection activities relevant to sport and exercise psychology and attend conference.

Content:

Introduction to sport and exercise psychology: what it is, professional framework, history. Psychological approaches: behaviour, cognitive, developmental. Uses to sport and exercise psychology: helping individuals, helping teams, helping coaches.
Overview of common sport psychology concepts: relevant to recent research.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Key theoretical content is delivered through lectures, which are further supported through seminars. Additional support is offered online, with forums, quizzes, worksheets and reading material used extensively.
