Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Evaluate personal and professional skills and attributes required to enable effective leadership and teaching of High Quality PE and School Sport.
Critically assess leadership styles and strategies used in the effective management of PE and physical activity programmes.
Evaluate the role of PE in contributing to government and outside agency initiatives relating to children’s health and wellbeing.
Apply knowledge and understanding of pedagogical approaches to personalising learning.
Evaluate the role PE plays in raising whole school standards and pupil achievement.
Critically assess key issues in the delivery of PE to enhance pupil learning and progress.

Content:

Personal skills and attributes for leadership. Initial teacher and subject leader competences and standard. Leadership styles, management v leadership. Self and Team evaluation.
Government initiatives and appropriate outside agencies e.g. ECM, Healthy schools, Youth Sports Trust, Leadership schemes, “huff and puff”, active playtimes.
Personalising learning for groups and individuals – Gifted and talented, inclusive PE including dyspraxia and autism spectrum, gender, culture, Cross curricular links, improving attendance, behaviour, attainment, pupil leadership qualities, PHSE.
Enhancing pupil progress – Assessment for learning, recording and reporting, Use of ICT, the use of AOTTs
