SHA4432 - Active Children and Primary Physical Education 2

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of national curriculum aims and content in relation to primary athletic and outdoor and adventurous activities.
Demonstrate ability to apply progressive learning to short term planning, showing understanding and application of learning objectives and outcomes, differentiation, teaching points and safety.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the nature of and influences on physical growth and the development of fundamental motor skills.
Appraise the contribution of athletic activities towards health-related exercise and lifelong participation in physical activity.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the benefits of physical activity in children.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the correlates and factors influencing young people’s level and type of involvement in sport and physical activity

Content:

National Curriculum - aims and content, links to personal and social learning through Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA).
Planning and organisation in primary athletics and OAA structure, progression in relation to core tasks, risk assessment, differentiation, short term planning.
• Questioning to promote understanding
• Health related exercise
• Fitness testing
• Links to outside agencies
• Motor development – fundamental motor skills, coordination, balance, agility
• Self-evaluation and reflection
Benefits of physical activity for children and young people; current levels of physical activity; the role of activity in children’s physical development; sociological and psychological influences on physical activity; environmental determinants influencing participation; age specific physical activity recommendations; economic factors influencing participation; current research and practice.

Further details relating to assessment
Students are expected to attend 100% in this modules. Students who fail to attend 75% of the PE Practicals will normally fail this module.

Students must pass both assessment components.
