On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of recent constructivist theory and research findings pertinent to relevant subjects and/or areas of the curriculum.
2 The ability to select and use subject-specific constructivist theory to inform interpretation and analysis of the ways in which pupils make sense of, and often misconstrue what they are taught.
3 The ability to select and use subject-specific constructivist theory and research to inform medium and long-term planning.
4 The ability to select and use subject-specific constructivist theory and research to inform the development of learning materials, instructional strategies and assessment instruments
1. Review of the substance and practical implications of the four key principles of teaching and learning distilled from the How People Learn (H.P.L.) meta-analytic research study. These four principles set constructivist finding within a more general research context.
2. Application of H.P.L. key principles and recent constructivist research to issues of planning teaching, learning and assessment within single subjects.
All teaching will take place in mixed activity lectures, workshops and tutorials.
