PYP6122 - Work Based Research: Research Proposal

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate the ability to design a research project, having regard to the principles of good research design, ethical practice and feasibility.
Critically examine a range of literature related to the chosen work- related research topic.
Reflect critically on ethical considerations for research in their professional field.
Write a research proposal in an appropriate style.

Content:

This module supports students in the development of a work-based research proposal that provides a basis for the PYP6132: Project module. Subject content will include the following: an overview of research methodology, examination of research ethics, primary and secondary data collection techniques, research proposal design and planning.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading, research tasks, workshop sessions, individual tutorials and e-contact support. Formative assessment will take place throughout this module and will include tutor feedback on plans, choice and design of research instruments and ethical considerations pertaining to particular topics.

Sharing of ideas and peer assessment will be encouraged.
