PSP6012 - Leadership in a Multi-agency Environment

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Examine theoretical perspectives relating to effective leadership and management skills, including team management, strategic overview and leading through change.
Critically analyse the role of leaders in the children’s workforce, particularly in relation to leadership skills and ethical awareness required for inter-agency working and lead professional responsibilities.
Evaluate own workplace in relation to roles and responsibilities in terms of leading aspects of the multi-agency response to children young people and family welfare support.

Content:

For workers who cross the boundaries between professions in Children’s Services, leadership skills include an awareness of a range of professional contexts, cultures, language and ethical responsibilities. Students will consider the roles undertaken by professionals working in the multi -agency workforce and how the ‘team around the child’ can effectively be established and managed, particularly within their own context. They will evaluate the effectiveness of the Common Assessment Framework and the work of the lead professional.
Students will also develop an awareness of inter-professional collaboration in safeguarding children and the skills required to lead and manage effective safeguarding work.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Although this is a work-based module and, for the most part, involves independent work-based study, learning will also take place in interactive sessions, incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions. Formative assessment opportunities will be provided throughout the module. Not only will students have access to tutorials for preliminary feedback on plans, students will also take part in formative peer assessment.
