PED5542 - Teaching, Learning and Assessment 2

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate an understanding of the complexity of the interaction between learning and contexts, and the range of ways in which participants (including learners and teacher) can influence the learning process;
2 Demonstrate a critical understanding of the societal and organizational structures and purposes of educational systems, and the possible implications for learners and the learning process.
3 Analyse educational concepts, theories and issues of policy in a systematic way.
4 Demonstrate the ability to reflect on their own and others’ value systems.

Content:

Critically examine and evaluate theory and research (eg. in relation to planning, teaching and assessment and consider to what extent it underpins classroom practice).
Consider the roles and responsibilities (including legal) and some of the complexities for teachers in relation to children’s learning and progression (eg. differentiation, working in professional teams and working with parents to support children’s progress).
Reflect on and evaluate own skills and practice (eg. in relation to planning, teaching and assessment and how they enable and support learning. To further develop key professional skills in relation to planning, teaching and assessment).
Consider and debate the political and cultural influences which shape educational policy, teaching and assessment in England and how this impacts on professional practice and learning outcomes for children.
Consider the ways schools improve and the evidence and data they use to support this process.

This module will address the following 2012 Teaching Standards:
2. Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils;
4. Plan and teach well structured lessons;
5. Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils; and 6. Make accurate and productive use of assessment.
