PEA6002 - Achievement and Diversity

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Critically evaluate the processes of learning, including some of the key paradigms and their impact on educational practices.
Systematically analyse policy and practice in relation to issues of inclusion.
Examine issues of social justice, social inclusion and education.
Reflect on their own value system and question the theories they have encountered in relation to success, achievement and progression.

Content:

In this module, students will be expected to critically evaluate notions of success – how it is defined, measured and expressed via policy and research. They will relate concepts to their understanding of learning and development and reflect on the impact of inclusion on children/ young people and schools. Students will evaluate elements of social justice, children and young people’s rights and inclusion to consider how these agendas impact on education policy and practice.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Sessions will use a range of learning and teaching methods including peer tutoring, student presentations, tutor - led demonstrations, individual and paired working.

During the course of each session there will be tutor/student interaction to meet individual needs and help develop skills, confidence, competence, knowledge and understanding relating to the aims and objectives.

On-going self evaluation will be part of the students’ identification of needs.

Course documentation, support materials and web based materials will be available on the VLE.

001 Case study report 1x2,000 words (End-of-Module - Yr 2 Term 2) 50%
002 Essay 1 x 2,000 words (End-of-Module - Yr 2 Term 2) 50%
