PCS6012 - Early Years Professionalism

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Justify the context and development of early years professional practice.
Appraise the influence of recent legislation, research, standards, policies, strategies and innovations on their own practice and professional effectiveness.
Evaluate their own status and experiences in the continuum of professionalisation and prioritise personal targets.

Content:

In this module, students will engage with the concept, principles, development and application of the professionalisation of the Early Years workforce, with reference to national and international socio-historical contexts, research findings, theoretical principles, government policy, key strategies, current national and ethical professional standards and policy and practice. Students will evaluate their own experience and practice with reference to key themes and contemporary issues and anticipate future potential development.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, directed reading, research tasks and workshop sessions. Assessment will be supported by peer review and formative feedback.
