JOU5124 - Broadcast Journalism

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Devise and produce television and radio news artefacts utilising production and technical skills effectively
Demonstrate the ability to analyse their work in the context of industry-standard radio and television news production
Reflect critically on their knowledge and understanding in a written format
Demonstrate the ability to work productively as a member of a team

Content:

The module runs over two semesters. In the first semester, students will be introduced to both radio and television equipment of industry standard. They will learn key news writing and production skills. In the case of television, they were learn how to shoot and edit and construct a television news package using appropriate writing and interviewing skills. In the second semester, they will move on to utilise those skills. In the case of television, they will move on to a longer-form feature piece, using more sophisticated shooting and editing skills, along with more complex structures in terms of packaging a television feature.

Other relevant matters
Semester 1 will be taught alongside Journalism, Sports Journalism and Magazine Journalism students who select JOU5102 Radio Broadcasting or JOU5972 Television Journalism as an option.
