FSL4502 - Teaching Gymnastics and Dance

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the aims and content of gymnastics and dance taught in the National Curriculum
2 support the effective teaching of pupils, observe pupils’; observation, guidance, differentiation, assessment and feedback
3 demonstrate effective lesson planning in gymnastics and dance
4 evaluate research into socio-cultural and gender issues in participation in gymnastics and dance
5 analyse theory and relate to practice in the workplace

Content:

National Curriculum PE Programme of Study KS1/KS2/KS3/KS4 in Gymnastics and Dance.

The development of knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to children in the 5-16 age range in order to support learning in gymnastics and dance ;

Teaching methods for effective learning in gymnastics and dance including: teaching points, task setting, differentiation, observation, demonstration, organization, positioning, positive feedback, safety.

Lesson Planning
Monitoring pupil performance and reporting
Socio-cultural and gender issues relating to participation in gymnastics and dance.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Lectures are accompanied by practical teaching workshops and seminars.

Assessment:

001 Practical teaching 15 mins and written report 1000 words (during module) 30%
002 Investigative Project 3000 words end of module 70%
