FSL4422 - Healthy Children/Healthy Schools

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 identify and discuss children’s beliefs, attitudes and behaviours relating to their own and others’ health
2 demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Government strategies and policies regarding children’s health
3 debate the impact of school and family on children’s health
4 demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the National Healthy School standards

Content:

Children’s health beliefs and attitudes
Children’s health behaviours – physical activity, healthy eating, substance use and emotional wellbeing
School and family influences on children’s health
National, regional and local health strategies, e.g. Every Child Matters, Obesity and Physical Activity, National Healthy School Programme
‘Whole school’ and multi-agency approach to children’s health

Learning and Teaching Information:

Lectures are accompanied by practical teaching workshops and physiology laboratory practicals and seminars.
