Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the aims and content of games and athletics taught in the National Curriculum
2 support the effective teaching of pupils; observation, guidance, differentiation, assessment and feedback
3 demonstrate effective lesson planning in order to support learning within games and athletics
4 demonstrate principles of skill acquisition and learning within Physical Education K,
5 analyse theory and relate to practice in the workplace

Content:

The Physical Education National Curriculum Programmes of Study for Games and Athletics
The development of knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to children in the 5-16 age range
Teaching methods applicable to the effective delivery of Games and Athletics: teaching points, task setting, observation, demonstration, organization, positioning, positive feedback, safety
Lesson Planning
Differentiation: STEP process, by task, by outcome, by peer assistance, by adult intervention
Monitoring pupil performance and reporting

Learning and Teaching Information:

Lectures are accompanied by practical teaching workshops and seminars.
