FCL5002 - Analysis and Application of Transferable Skills through Movement and Dance

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Identify and analyse the useful benefits of transferable skills developed through movement and dance to a specific audience, including physical fitness and wellbeing outcomes.
2 Analyse and assess opportunities that arise for development of transferable skills in particular exercises
3 Critically reflect and evaluate personal development of transferable skills

Content:

Students will work with participants to identify, quantify and analyse what benefits are to be derived from movement and dance. Students will engage with how these benefits may vary for different users – for example a falls prevention programme or a school-based session. Students will demonstrate the ability to deconstruct particular exercises to identify and assess how benefits may come from the practice of that exercise. Moreover, students will consider the extent to which those benefits might transfer and impact upon health. Throughout, students will reflect upon their personal effectiveness and practice. Students will integrate their learning with models of physiology of training and wellbeing. Students will also understand the application of protocols relating to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and liaison with appropriate professionals.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Within each teaching block there will be a one-day intensive session that will introduce the two modules to be studied. Following this, students will undertake on-line distance learning via Moodle to structure the 12-week teaching block with appropriate milestones, formative tasks and final submission of assignments.

Additionally, students will be attending Lishi classes (usually on a weekly basis) where they may carry out learning tasks appropriate to that module, including observed teaching assignments and presentations.

Additional assessment information
For each assessment there will be a process of calibration of a sample of assignments between the VL and the programme manager. These will be based upon a clear marking matrix and criteria framework. Once calibration is achieved there will be a system of sampled second marking and moderation to assure quality and best practice

001 Portfolio: focus on working on particular exercises 1 x 2000 words 50%
002 Assignment: critical reflection of personal skill, to include action-planning, physical and health benefits 1 x 3000 wor 50%
