FCL4052 - Developing Communication Skills to Promote and Sustain Movement and Dance Classes

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate interpersonal and group communication skills that enhance teacher credibility.
2. Demonstrate ability to produce traditional promotional media – eg. poster, brochure and flyer.
3. Demonstrate ability to utilise new technology and media to promote movement and dance for health – eg. social networks and other internet resources.

Content:

Students in the module will reflect upon their self-presentation, clarity, articulation and clear demonstration needed to be an effective instructor. Students will be able to make use of traditional media to promote Lishi classes – for example brochures, posters and flyers. In addition, students will demonstrate the ability to utilise new media to promote and develop classes, this would include social networking, tweeting and other resources.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Within each teaching block there will be a one-day intensive session that will introduce the two modules to be studied. Following this, students will undertake on-line distance learning via Moodle to structure the 12-week teaching block with appropriate milestones, formative tasks and final submission of assignments.

Additionally, students will be attending Lishi classes (usually on a weekly basis) where they may carry out learning tasks appropriate to that module, including observed teaching assignments and presentations.
