FCL4022 - Understanding the Benefits of Lishi Movement and Dance

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Explain the health benefits of the Lishi system to key audiences.
2 Demonstrate the ability to suitably adapt their presentation content and style to suit different user groups.
3 Map the particular benefits from the practice of different aspects of the Lishi system.

Content:

Students will develop subject knowledge of the health benefits that can come from Lishi movement and dance. In particular, students will consider how they should adapt how they might present those benefits to suit the needs and requirements of various user groups. Students will demonstrate the ability to identify particular benefits from specific aspects of the Lishi system – for example breath-therapy for health or postural development for improved balance. Students will also consider the range of positive and negative benefits of Lishi movement and dance, addressing physiological, psychological and social aspects.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Within each teaching block there will be a one-day intensive session that will introduce the two modules to be studied. Following this, students will undertake on-line distance learning via Moodle to structure the 12-week teaching block with appropriate milestones, formative tasks and final submission of assignments.
Additionally, students will be attending Lishi classes (usually on a weekly basis) where they may carry out learning tasks appropriate to that module, including observed teaching assignments and presentations.
