FCL4002 - Introducing Basic Concepts of History, Philosophy and Theory in Lishi Movement and Dance for Health

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate knowledge of the historic development of the Lishi system
2 Demonstrate knowledge of key aspects of the philosophy that underpins the Lishi system
3 Understand the impact of Lishi theory upon their personal and class practice, including physical, mental and spiritual health and wellbeing

Content:

Students will consider the historic context of the Lishi system of movement and dance, over 3,000 years, according to Shankman and Durrant (2000) and others. Through guided reading and class observations students will reflect upon the philosophy tenets that are demonstrated within the Lishi system. Students will reflect upon the impact of Lishi theory both upon their personal performance and class practice.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Within each teaching block there will be a one-day intensive session that will introduce the two modules to be studied. Following this, students will undertake on-line distance learning via Moodle to structure the 12-week teaching block with appropriate milestones, formative tasks and final submission of assignments.
Additionally, students will be attending Lishi classes (usually on a weekly basis) where they may carry out learning tasks appropriate to that module, including observed teaching assignments and presentations.
