ENGM5225 - A Peculiar Honesty: the Poet and Spiritual Tradition II

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Define a topic for a critical essay, extending the range of the student’s previous work for ENGM 5125, on the relation of the work of one or more poets to traditions or questions of spirituality
2 Compile a bibliography of secondary and primary source material appropriate to this topic
3 Plan, research and complete an essay on this topic, analysing poetic texts with rigour and sensitivity and making appropriate use of source material
4 Show awareness of relevant recent scholarship and make a valid contribution to debate on the topic

Content:

Students research and write an extended piece of work on the writings of one poet (or a group of poets who can be appropriately linked) whose work is informed by a spiritual tradition or addresses questions of spirituality.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Students will formulate a topic, undertake independent reading and research, and complete an essay, in consultation with a member of MA staff who will be assigned as their supervisor.
