BMM6482 - Leadership

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Critically review a range of leadership theories contrasting the content and process theories with the new wave of concepts such as distributed, shared and connective leadership;
Demonstrate their own development of leadership awareness through personal exercises and critical reflections;
Engage critically with academic sources and present a coherent and reasoned argument in both verbal and written format.

Content:

A critical overview of traditional approaches to leadership such as trait, situational and process theories. A wide-ranging consideration of new approaches which conceptualise leadership as separate from authority and management such as Connective Leadership, Shared/Distributed Leadership, Servant Leadership. Individual reflection of personal leadership potential during a range of class-based exercises.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The 3-hour sessions will involve lectures and workshops with team exercises. Students will also participate in action learning sets and other personal development and reflection exercises that will facilitate their leadership development goals.
