BMM6422 - Business and Management Strategy

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

analyse and explain the benefits to organisations of strategic planning within the business environment;
employ specific techniques, methods and models used in the assessment and evaluation of a given organisation’s strategy;
analyse the external environment in which organisations exist and its effects on strategic planning;
tabulate and analyse the relative strengths and weaknesses of a given business organisation;
identify and evaluate the appropriate strategic choices for a given organisation within a business context.

Content:

An analysis of the inter-related nature of the environment in which business organisations exist and the implications for the way they work. An introduction to models of industry analysis. An introduction to the main theoretical strategic planning models. The use and application of financial information relevant to different groups of stakeholders. The implications and influence of cultural and ethical issues for strategic planning. The effective strategies for organisational competition and growth.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Delivery will be by a core of weekly lectures designed to introduce the main issues related to the content and objectives of the module supported with weekly tutorials. Tutorials will be focus on specific issues identified from the case-study materials.
