BAM6022 - Research Project

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

(1) explore, analyse and evaluate in depth a specific management or business related issue of relevance to their programme of study;
(2) formulate a question or hypothesis and use a clear and appropriate methodology for data collection and analysis to test the hypothesis or question set;
(3) demonstrate a capacity for self management and independent learning and for the acquisition, evaluation and organisation of knowledge directed at problem analysis.

Content:

Problem definition: defining the boundaries to the task; formulating a working hypothesis or process definition;
determining an investigation strategy.
Conducting a literature review.
Methodology: gaining access for research; designing methodology, collection and organising data for interpretation and evaluation.
Presenting findings: structuring the framework for presentation of discussion and findings; adhering to academic conventions within subject specialism.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The module is designed to support individual learning through enquiry and research. A series of workshops will be organised to assist students with understanding methodologies and potential problems. Students will be provided with a specialist tutor to assist and guide the development of the investigation, and the organisation and presentation of the findings. The module encourages deep learning through the analyses of relevant literature and the investigative research process required for the module.
