On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Demonstrate an awareness of a range of qualitative research techniques;
2 Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate methodological applications across a range of research situations;
3 Design a small-scale research project;
4 Demonstrate an awareness of interdisciplinary methods of performance assessment in sport
5 Evaluate requirements of sports performance using an interdisciplinary approach
The ethical and moral framework of qualitative research; computer-aided research tools and the Data Protection Act; Questionnaire-based research; observation-based research; interview-based research; record keeping/data processing; presentation of results/report writing.
Psychological, physiological and biomechanical requirements of sport; conducting assessment of sport performance; measurement concepts and limitations; validity, reliability and sensitivity of measurement; ethical considerations is assessing sport performance.
The module fuses lead lectures for disseminating underpinning theoretical knowledge with seminars and laboratory-based workshops for the assessment of sport performance. Further, Independent study contributes approximately 100 hours made up of reading, data collection, preparation for tutorials, workshops and seminars.
