On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Evaluate the work of health, social care and education professionals in meeting the needs of those with complex needs
2 Critically evaluate current policy and legislation related to meeting the needs of those with complex health and learning needs
3 Critically evaluate case study data related to a particular child, young person or adult and those who care for them
In this module students will gain an understanding of the range of social, health, legal and education issues surrounding those with complex needs and the people who care for them. They will examine the role of professionals in this field and their responsibilities, as well as the impact of multi agency working in this field.
Students will examine data related to the case of a particular child, young person or adult with complex needs and the work of those caring for them. They will evaluate the impact of this support in light of other reading in the appropriate area. They are not expected to gather the data themselves, but use a range of ‘real life’ information provided for them.
Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
