PSY4012 - Research Methods in Psychology 1

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Select and use a range of investigative methods to address research questions in psychology.
2. Demonstrate skills of data presentation, statistical analysis and report writing.
3. Demonstrate the relevant application, computation and interpretation of a range of parametric and non-parametric analyses.
4. Discuss ethical considerations and follow ethical guidelines in psychological research.
5. Demonstrate that they have participated in a range of psychological research studies.

Content:

This foundational module provides students with the requisite skills for investigative work throughout their degree. There is an emphasis upon both quantitative and qualitative methodologies which are introduced alongside tools for analysis (including SPSS) and report writing skills.

Learning and Teaching Information:

This module will be taught using both weekly one hour lectures and practicals of three hours. Lecture content will be predominantly theoretical and will introduce the key concepts and some analyses by hand. Practical sessions will focus upon getting the students to design experiments, analyse data and write reports.
