PSP6002 - Evaluating Current Debates and Developments

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Reflect on their own value systems, development and practices
2 Analyse issues related to the development and practice in children’s services and inter agency working systematically
3 Evaluate policy since the Laming Report in an informed and systematic way
4 Critically review the presentation of current debates surrounding the children’s workforce in a range of media and research.

Content:

In this module students will be expected to engage with the historical context of the multi-agency working currently developing in the children’s workforce in a critical way. They will identify their own role within this and debate the effectiveness of current policy and strategy. Through engaging in the review of a range of media – including the popular press – students will evaluate the impact of a range of perspectives on the practices in the field.

This module will also be utilized to develop the academic independent learning skills required for study at this level.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.

001 Group debate and rationale 5 min presentation & 1000 word rationale (Mid module) 40%
002 Essay 2000 words (End of module) 60%
