PEY6022 - Using ICT in the Early Years Setting

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Evaluate the use of ICT with young children
2 Plan a series of activities for an early years setting using ICT
3 Critically review research into the impact of early ICT use and its effectiveness in supporting a young child’s development and learning

Content:

In this module students will be expected to engage with ICT in its broadest sense including computers on a practical level as well as critically review literature and research into the impact of ICT on early childhood and learning.

Key themes include:
• Computer software for early years
• Impact of early television and videos designed for babies and young children
• Theory related to young children’s understanding of real and pretend

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.

001 1 x 2500 word essay (end of semester 1) 60%
002 1 x 1500 word equivalent ICT resource (end of semester 2) 40%
