PEY6002 - The Law & Childrens' Rights

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Express an awareness of key legislation related to children and working in early years
2 Analyse the roles and responsibilities of those working with young children
3 Debate key issues related to children’s rights, safeguarding and welfare
4 Critically review case study evidence related to the law and children’s rights

Content:

In this module students will gain an understanding of key legislation related to children and working in early years. They will be expected to relate legislation to roles and responsibilities of those working in the multi agency environment. Also students will identify, research and debate key issues relating to children’s rights, safeguarding and welfare and perspectives on the legal framework.

Students will be expected to research individual cases to exemplify the key issues and to evaluate the effectiveness of current legislation and its application.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
