PED5591 - Learning Theories and the Outdoor Environment within the Early Yrs Foundation stage

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate understanding of the complexity of the interaction between learning and contexts, and the range of ways in which participants (including learners and teachers) can influence the learning process.
2 Analyse educational concepts, theories and issues of policy in a systematic way.
3 Demonstrate organisation and articulate opinions and arguments in speech and writing using relevant specialist vocabulary.

Content:

This module will develop knowledge of theories of learning and how these link to Early Years practice. It will examine the pedagogy that underpins effective early years practice with specific emphasis on the outdoor provision as a learning environment. The role of the practitioner in providing the experiences children need to develop skills, attitudes and concepts across all areas of learning will be addressed.
This module will address the following Qualified Teacher Status Standards for 2012:
3. Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge;
and
5. Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Lectures will involve trainees in interactive discussion and analysis of sources and key concepts. Workshop sessions will involve trainees in practical activities involved with teaching and learning and evaluation.
Tutorials will involve trainees in small group and individual discussion focusing on analysis and synthesis.
