On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1) Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of major historical developments in the film industry and explain the role of different types of organisation and processes;
2) Demonstrate basic skills in written communication (essay);
3) Demonstrate basic skills in group work and oral presentation

The module provides an introduction to the historical development of the film industry. It examines a number of developed and developing countries and explores Hollywood in depth. It addresses topics such as the processes and organisations involved in production, exhibition and distribution; funding and public policy; control, regulation and censorship; marketing, promotion and advertising; audiences and cinema-going.
Students will examine and analyse a variety of texts and other sources of information and undertake basic research exercises. Using a market research or other similar exercise, the module also enables students to practise and apply skills for group work and oral presentation.

Additional assessment information
The Portfolio will normally include a number of exercises designed to develop research skills and familiarise students with resources relevant to the field of study, a group presentation and reflective report.
Students must complete and submit all forms of assessment to be eligible to pass the module
