Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1) Devise and produce a television news package utilising production and technical skills effectively
2) Devise and produce a television features package utilising production and technical skills effectively
3) Demonstrate the ability to analyse their work in the context of industry-standard television news production
4)Reflect critically on their knowledge and understanding in a written format
5) Demonstrate the ability to work productively as a member of a team;

Content:

The module runs over two semesters.
In the first semester, students will be introduced to digital camera and editing equipment of industry standard. They will learn key news writing and production skills. In the second semester, they will move on to produce a feature package.

Portfolio 1 will normally include a group-produced news package with introduction, plus reflective, critical writing on the process and on television news.
Portfolio 2 will normally include a group-produced features package, plus reflective, critical writing on the process and on television news.
Students must complete and submit both forms of assessment to be eligible to pass the module.

Assessment:

001 Portfolio 1 1 x 2000 words equivalent (end of sem 1) 50%
002 Portfolio 2 1 x 2000 words equivalent (end of sem 2) 50%
