Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of key theories in journalism studies
2 Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of contemporary key debates in journalism
3 Demonstrate understanding of basic academic research skills
4 Apply this understanding to a researched case study

Content:

This module is about the main theories of journalism studies and key contemporary debates about journalism. It is also concerned with helping students apply their understanding of trends and theories to the analysis of press coverage.
As part of this, the module will look at seminal studies in the field, for example, agenda-setting, primary definition, source-journalism relations and news values.
