FYP4052 - Understanding and Managing Behaviour

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Identify causes of non compliant behaviour including social, physical and emotional reasons
2 Discuss the effects non compliant behaviour has on learning
3 Investigate theories, techniques and strategies for dealing with behavioural issues
4. Review their own practices or the practices of others in managing the behaviour of the children, young people or adults with whom they work.

Content:

The module will review the theories related to why children, young people and adults behave in a range of ways including social and emotional conditions, disabilities and other societal or environmental issues.

Students will relate the behavioural factors to individual’s ability to learn, relate to their peers and develop. They will explore behaviour management strategies and how they manage the behaviour of those with whom they work.

Students will be expected to review their practices and those of others working with children, young people and adults, including those with additional needs.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will be through a range of lectures, workshops and tutorials. Students will be expected to draw on a range of sources including their own working experiences. Group discussion and tasks will form a significant proportion of the College based learning to develop relevant analytical skills. Students will record their development within a Personal Development Log.
