On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Express an understanding of the importance of skills development
2 Demonstrate an emerging understanding of the application of theory into practice
3 Review their current skills level and create meaningful personal skills development plans
4 Express an understanding of work based learning and place themselves within the WBL environment.
This module acts as an introductory module to the foundation degrees so as to develop within students a broad and deep understanding of the personal, professional and academic skills required for progressive participation in their work situation and in the foundation degree programme.
Students will analyse and evaluate their own skill status and develop an action plan that sets out personal skill development targets for completion during the two-year programme.
Learning will be through a range of lectures, workshops and tutorials. Students will be expected to draw on a range of sources including their own working experiences. Group discussion and tasks will form a significant proportion of the College based learning to develop relevant analytical skills. Students will record their development within a Personal Development Log.
