FSL5122 - Creating an environment conducive to learning

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 analyse conditions that underpin the management of effective learning with reference to environment, relationships and communication, and classroom organisation.
2 evaluate current academic findings underpinning the management of the learning environment;
3 demonstrate knowledge and understanding of motivation theory and motivational strategies related to positive pupil management;
4 reflect on and modify own practice in relation to creating an effective learning environment

Content:

Defining terms and making links between behaviour management and the learning environment .
Emotional Literacy.
Behaviour management and professional values and practice such as equal opportunities, high expectations and sensitive communication.
Theories of motivation.
Effective communication to promote pupil self-motivation and self control.
Classroom discipline as a means to an end, desirable pupil learning, and not as an end in itself.
The skills of effective class managers.
Positive schools, positive teachers and positive approaches to learning.

Learning and Teaching Information:

At Level 5 it is expected that students will know and understand the essential mechanics of HE study and be able to work more independently in resourcing and researching their learning. Work at Level 5 will emphasize the application and analysis of theory and develop the skills of critical reasoning. A key learning and teaching strategy in this module will be how to research, analysis and evaluate work-based practice
