FAN4002 - The Nature of Inclusivity

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Define inclusivity in relation to theory and practice
2 Describe and explain the significance of early and current legislation on inclusive practices in today’s society
3 Identify strategies for enhancing inclusive practices within their workplace
4 Use ICT to enhance their assignment

Content:

This module will focus on:
• Theories and definitions of inclusivity and disability
• Issues of inclusivity and diversity
• The language and terminology of disability and diversity
• Changes over time in models and labels associated with disability and diversity
• Recent legislation in creating an inclusive society with particular reference to the 2012 Equality Act
• The implications of inclusivity for children and young people
• Evaluating the impact of inclusive practices in students’ own organisations and in society in general

Learning and Teaching Information:

Level 1 modules will provide a foundation level of knowledge and understanding of addressing additional needs. In addition to the required subject knowledge , the modules will introduce students to key skills and enable them to develop the necessary academic skills.
In particular the teaching in this module will use workshops to support learning.

The sessions in this module will particularly demand students to reflect on their own effectiveness in terms of ICT and identify areas where effectiveness can be improved. This will include completion of a personal action plan for ICT in the student’s Development Plan.

This module will run over 6 weeks.

001 Eval of practice in the student’s own organisation, inc a personal definition of inclusivity 1 x 2000 words 50%
