On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
(1) Understand the general scope, function and working of the law relating to children
(2) Demonstrate awareness of the social, economic and political context of the development of law relating to children
(3) Understand and analyze principles relating to children and the law
(4) Demonstrate knowledge of some of the main areas of child law
(5) Demonstrate knowledge of recent developments in this area
(1) The scope and boundaries of the law relating to children; the functions of the law; the workings of child law in practice.
(2) The context of the development of law relating to children, including social, economic and political factors; an overview of the actual development of child law over time.
(3) Principles influential in the field of children and the law, including the child’s welfare, the child’s wishes, children’s rights, and parental rights and responsibilities.
(4) Detailed study of some of the main areas of child law.
(5) A more detailed study of recent developments relating to children and the law and their implications.
In semester one, the module will be delivered by means of lectures and tutorials. In semester two, there will be a mix of lectures, seminars and tutorials. Some independent research will be carried out in each semester.
