SHN5175 - Working in Sport and Wellbeing (STR) (Inc Placement)

Objectives:

On successful compltion of the module, students will be able to:

1 - Apply knowledge and skills acquired during their academic studies in settings outside of the academic environment;
2 - Provide evidence of 75 SST accreditation hours; and,
3 - Reflect on personal performance, skills and attributes.

Content:

This module allows you to apply your knowledge and skills in settings outside of the academic environment and will develop your ability to reflect on your experience. This reflection will be critical in identifying how to maintain good practice and develop your practice in future.

In addition, this module will provide you with some supporting content relevant to your programme of study to enhance your options of gaining real-world experience. Examples of this include; enhancing communication skills via a range of media, interdisciplinary working, career guidance relating to your chosen sector (incl. guest speaker inputs) and placement searching and attaining.

This module will include a requirement to gather at least 75 SST accreditation hours whilst studying L5 of your programme.

Please note, these hours contribute to the 250 SST accreditation hours that must be gathered across the entirety of your programme (L4, L5 & L6). Of these 250 hours, a minimum of 150 of must come from hands-on clinical placements or internships where you are under the supervision of an appropriate professional.

Learning and Teaching Information:

This module will use a combination of lectures, tutorials, and placement hours to enhance your learning experience. Lectures will provide you with essential theoretical knowledge, introducing key concepts, frameworks, and topics. They are designed to offer you a structured approach to understanding the subject and lay the groundwork for more interactive learning activities.

Tutorials will complement the lectures by offering a more personalized, small-group setting where you can delve deeper into specific topics. These sessions will allow you to engage in discussions, ask questions, and receive feedback from your tutor, helping you apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

Placement hours will provide you with real-world experience, enabling you to apply what you’ve learned in a professional or practical context. These hours allow you to develop hands-on skills, gain industry insights, and build confidence in your field.

Together, these methods offer a balanced approach that combines theory, application, and practical experience to support your learning and development.

Further Details Relating to Asesssment

001 – Coursework (Log of 75 hours)
You will be required to submit a log of your 75 (minimum) SST accreditation hours gathered whilst studying L5 of your programme. This will include a summary of the activities completed and be evidenced appropriately.

002 – Coursework (Portfolio of Reflection(s))
This assessment will require you to reflect on the SST accreditation hours you have gathered, identifying areas of good practice and areas to develop in future.

Please note that the 001 – Coursework (Log of 75 hours) must be passed as a PSRB requirement.
