Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module teaches the appropriate methods for the assessment and management of common peripheral injuries of the upper and lower limb. Theoretical content will cover the risk factors and mechanisms for these common injuries and develop your understanding of the assessment process.
Pactical sessions will teach you how to work with the injured individual to safely and effectively perform an assessment of an injury, develop reasonable hypotheses and arrive at a diagnosis. This is achieved through the use of subjective questioning skills, objective assessment and special tests. This module will also cover the safe and effective application of mobilisations to the peripheral joints.
Students will learn to work with individuals from diverse background and cultures to create a safe and welcoming environment for patients and clients.

Formative Assessment: You will undergo formative assessment during throughout the course of the module. This will take the form of discussions with the module tutor and their peers.
Assessment 001: Is a skills portfolio where students will be assessed throughout the module on Skills they have learnt. Students must demonstrate safe and appropriate hands-on skills.
Assessment 002: You will undertake a practical exam at the end of Semester 1. This will be case study based and assess the student's ability to BOTH assess the injured athlete AND provide safe and effective treatment in the form of the peripheral management techniques you have studied acrossed the module. To pass the exam you will be required to demonstrate safe and effective practice.
Assessment 003: There is an 80% attendance requirement for this module, which aligns with the expectations of The Society of Sports Therapists (SST). Your attendance will be used to determine whether you will be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002), and thus could have implications for whether you can pass the module. Detailed below are the potential scenarios:
• 80-100% attendance (inclusive); You will be permitted to attempt the practical assessments (002).
• 50-79% attendance (inclusive); You may not be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002) in the first attempt assessment window and you will be given a grade of 0 (Non-Submission). You will only be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002) in the second attempt assessment window if you attend mandatory catch-up sessions.
• 0-49% attendance (inclusive); You will not be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002) in the first attempt assessment window and you will be given a grade of 0 (Non-Submission). Furthermore, it will not be possible to raise your attendance to a sufficient amount with catch-up sessions, therefore you will not be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002) in the second attempt assessment window and you will be given a grade of 0 (Non-Submission). This will mean you will not pass the assessment (002) and will not pass the module.
All assessments must be passed as part of PSRB requirements. Students must be able to demonstrate safe and effective practice.
