PSY6352 - Applied Educational Psychology

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an advanced knowledge and understanding of the impact educational psychology can have on pupils, schools and settings;
Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different educational psychology approaches to case work;
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the approaches taken by educational psychologists to tackle a range of issues within education systems from both UK and international perspectives;
Demonstrate an understanding of how different educational environments and philosophies influence the practice of educational psychologists in the UK and abroad.

Content:

The roles and functions of an educational psychologist. Working with a range of clients in a range of educational contexts. The impact of educational psychology and psychologists on pupils and schools. Alternative methods used in educational assessments. Case work approaches. The impact of context on the role, function and practice of educational psychology.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The module will be delivered via short lectures, seminars and problem solving groups focusing on case studies. The VLE will provide access to supplementary material and module guidance.
