PSY5121 - Educational Psychology in Theory and Practice

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of key issues within Educational Psychology
Demonstrate an understanding of different models and theories for learning.
Evaluate the degree to which different educational environments and philosophies foster and develop learning.
Demonstrate an understanding of where barriers to learning originate and the impact they have on access to education
Demonstrate an understanding of the key issues in the educational assessment of children.

Content:

The role of psychology within a variety of educational contexts and its approach to a wide range of educational issues. The specific role of an educational psychologist and their impact on school systems. Models and theories of learning. The role of educational context and its influence on learning. The barriers to learning and access to education. Issues in educational assessment.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The module will be delivered via weekly formal lectures, with students attending one tutorial. The VLE will provide access to supplementary material and module guidance.
