PSY5072 - Professional Development and Placement in Psychology

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Demonstrate the application of psychological concepts and theories within the volunteering sector;
Demonstrate knowledge of job/career entry analysis for a named job/career in psychology;
Demonstrate reflective evaluation of their strengths and weaknesses across a range of key employability skills;
Develop further employability skills, including digital skills; and apply these skills in the workplace and perform to a satisfactory standard.

Content:

A professional development programme comprising:

1 Introduction to Professional Development Planning and Placements at Level 5;

2 Workshop sessions including, for example,
- team work
- assessment centre tasks
- briefings on EPO procedures, skills and preparation for attachment/assessment
- international and cultural perspectives
- Further development of employability skills, including digital skills

3 Interview with Placement Tutor.

Placement with suitable organisation(s), normally six weeks in total.

Reflection and evaluation of the placement.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Tutor-led discussion amongst personal tutees.

Day conference and workshop sessions: presentations, briefings, discussions, practical activities relating to the requirements of the preparatory portfolio and report.

Individual tutorials with Placement Tutor/Development Tutor before placement starts.

The portfolio normally includes a Learning Diary, Career Path Reflection and a Digital skills assessment.
