On successful compltetion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Identify the different professional routes to accreditation within psychology, as recognised by the British Psychological Society.
2 Explain how psychological principles and research are applied in different professional settings to understand and address real-world issues.
3 Explore the roles, responsibilities, and ethical considerations of psychologists working in different applied psychology fields.
This module introduces you to the key areas of applied psychology, including counselling, forensic, education and child development, health, occupational, business and marketing, and sport and exercise psychology. Ethical considerations, professional roles, and the societal impact of psychology will be examined. Through case studies and discussions, you will develop an understanding of how psychological principles are applied in diverse settings. The module also provides insights into career pathways, helping you connect your learning to future professional opportunities in psychology and related fields.
You will be taught using a series of on-campus interactive workshops, combining staff- and student-led elements. In these sessions, you will take part in a range of learning activities, such as group discussions, presentations and other interactive activities. You will be asked to complete preparatory work before each live on-campus session. Preparatory tasks may include reading set texts, sourcing independent reading, watching pre-recorded taught material, watching relevant online videos, or thinking and responding to questions for discussion. You will be assigned further guided learning activities to complete following the live on campus sessions.

For this assessment you will create and present an infographic that depicts professional routes to accreditation covered in the module (and recognised by the BPS). Your presentation will take the form of a pre-recorded presentation which will be uploaded and submitted in advance of the corresponding deadline. The maximum time allocated to your presentation is 5 minutes, as this factors in the additional time required for you to prepare and develop your infographic accordingly. By completing this assessment, you will develop skills in critical thinking, data visualisation, digital literacy, creativity, and concise communication.
