PED6702 - Embedding the Learning and Assessment Cycle Across the Wider Curriculum

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 - Analyse the processes used to assess wider curriculum subject areas (K1; K3; E6);
2 - Review ethical and value driven requirements within the KS1 & KS2 wider curriculum (I4);
3 - Critically evaluate theoretical principles underpinning assessment in each subject area studied (I1); and,
4 - Reflect on assessment that supports teaching and learning, demonstrating understanding of how these may be applied effectively in school contexts (P2).

Content:

Students will have opportunities to recall what they already know of the planning, teaching and assessment cycle used in school. They will revisit the meaning and purpose of planning and assessment cycles from previous modules.

Students will critique the overall intent for delivery of the Foundation Subjects in the Primary School, in line with statutory documentation. They will examine examples of curriculum design and assessment processes.

Expert colleagues from Partnership Schools will be invited to talk about cultures and values of curriculum design across a range of contexts and school demographics. Students will consider subject development plans and aspects of subject leadership to support their transition into early career teachers.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The module is taught in curriculum subjects and delivered through lectures and workshops, pre and post session reading and tasks to develop deeper understanding. Teaching and learning modes include directed reading, guided discussions, whole class and small group learning and workshop tasks. These are designed to provide formative feedback opportunities which lead students towards the summative assessment of the module.
